Overview

Fieldnote ("the App") is designed with your privacy in mind. We believe your personal data belongs to you. This policy explains what information the App collects, how it's used, and your rights regarding that data.

Data We Collect

Data stored locally on your device:

• Plant observations you create (names, notes, dates)
• Photos you take or import
• Location data (only if you grant permission, stored with your observations)
• App preferences and settings

This data is stored on your device and in your personal iCloud account (if enabled). We do not have access to this data.

Data Shared with Third Parties

Plant Identification Service: When you use the AI plant identification feature, photos are sent to our identification service provider to analyze and return results. These images are:

• Processed only to provide identification results
• Not stored permanently by the service provider
• Not used for advertising or sold to third parties

No other personal data is shared with third parties.

iCloud Sync

If you have iCloud enabled, your plant library syncs across your Apple devices using your personal iCloud account. This sync is handled entirely by Apple's CloudKit framework. We do not have access to your iCloud data.

Location Data

The App may request access to your location to:

• Tag observations with where you found a plant
• Show plants commonly found near you

Location access is optional. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device Settings. Location data is stored only on your device and in your personal iCloud account.

Analytics & Tracking

Fieldnote does not include any third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or tracking tools. We do not track your behavior, collect usage statistics, or build profiles about you.

Data Retention

Your data remains on your device until you delete it. If you delete the App, all locally stored data is removed. Data in iCloud follows Apple's iCloud data retention policies.

Children's Privacy

Fieldnote does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App does not require account creation or collect identifying information.

Your Rights

You have full control over your data:

• Access: All your data is visible within the App
• Delete: Delete any observation or photo within the App
• Export: Your data syncs via iCloud to your devices
• Revoke permissions: Manage camera and location access in device Settings

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
